There are numerous ways to write a resume; however, when these issues are not addressed, the resume is not as effective:

(1) The resume should only be one or two pages.

(2) The resume should use key words placed into full sentences that exemplify core competencies.

(3) The resume should be formatted in a clean, easy to read manner using Calibri or Arial font.

(4)  The resume should not include diamond shaped bullets or other unusual characters.

(5)  The resume should be mistake-free, no grammatical or spelling errors.

(6)  The resume should not read like all the key words and phrases were taken from a thesaurus.

(7)  The resume should grab interest in the first four or five phrases at the top.

(8)  The resume should include several key achievements.

(9)  The resume should bring out key skill sets such as leadership, relationship building, client partnering, analysis, product or service management, strategic marketing, and other proficiency.

10)  The resume should contain content that serves only one purpose, which is to market your skills toward getting a new job.  The resume is not a chronology of your life.  It is a marketing tool to get you contacted by recruiters and employers you would like to work for.
